What Is 'The Fog' About?
The Fog by F.R.McCreary is about a fog slowly moving through the streets and the fog is described as a human, using lots of personification. The fog is being described as dark and eerie. I chose this poem because I like how the poet used human-qualities to describe the fogs' actions.
What Are The Poetic Techniques?
One of the poetic device is personification. The poet has given lots of human qualities to a non-living thing, the fog. The poet has added arms, a face, fingers and shoulders to the fog to give the fog human qualities. The fog appears to be a old man as the poet described the fog to have hunched-shoulder with a grey face.
Another poetic device is repetition. Repetition of the word 'dark' reinforces that the fog is eerie and has a evil atmosphere.
'Slowly the fog', 'Arms wide', 'Searching, searching', 'Shoulders hunched/Hunched-shouldered' and 'Seeking, seeking' was also repeated in the poem.
Another poetic device is sibilant. Sibilant is the repetition of the 's' sound in a number of words. 'Up the short street from the harbor,' is an example of a sibilant.

What Are The Themes?
Change is one of the main theme of this poem because at the start of the poem it starts off with a normal landscape. Later on in the poem, the fog suddenly comes in and it changed everything. The change is a normal landscape representing how beautiful nature is, turned into a scary nature and environment that has been ruined by the fog.
My Opinions
My opinions on the poem 'The Fog' is I like the idea of using personification to describe the fog's movement.
